About

Jung-A Han is a Korean-Irish artist who was born in Seoul, South Korea. Han moved to Ireland in January 1999. She studied MA in Art in IADT Dun Laoghaire and BA in Fine Art at the Institute of Technology, Carlow.

Han’s art work mainly focuses on painting, photograph, film, performance and audio format. Han’s work aims to explore the relationship between people and how they communicate and network with each other in the modern world. The core of Han’s art practice relates to working with members of the public exploring the question of Identity.

Jung-A Han is primarily interested in history, culture and the environment, more specifically the relationship of these elements to people. Han’s work explores the aspects of ‘dual identity’ the feeling of being a hybrid of cultures with the inevitable progression and demise of individuality.

Jung-A Han’s current art interests are influenced by South Korean origin American artist and writer Theresa Hak Kyung Cha, Korean minimalist Ufan Lee and American minimalist Robert Morris. Morris introduced the importance of the artist engaging with viewers completing the art work. Morris also introduced the idea of art work to be placed by itself, by its own gravity. This chance and automation approach influenced the technique of drip painting which Han utilized in some of her art works. The choice of technique allows the paint to be an entity itself within the work, taking active spontaneous control of Han’s intentions.
